Welcome to Week 17!  As the year is coming to a close and ALL work must be submitted THIS week in order to focus on Finals ONLY next week - which is Week 18 and the last week of school, any 3-11 grade Full-Time student MUST COMPLETE THE PERFORMANCE SERIES TESTS IN MATH AND READING BEFORE ATTENDING CLASS OR COMPLETING ANY OTHER WORK ON MONDAY!  Any student who needs to miss a live session in order to test may watch the recording and submit a brief summary to the teacher via Kmail to get this week's important information and gain attendance points.

On Monday, your teachers will be reminding you to go straight to testing if you go to class and are on the Not Tested list.  IF YOU'VE COMPLETED TESTING AS ASSIGNED ALREADY - THANK YOU FOR FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH THIS IMPORTANT AND REQUIRED ASSIGNMENT!

We hope that ALL students work hard to wrap up final assignments and prep for your Finals Week next week, as NO EXTENSIONS will be granted past the final day of school - Friday, May 31st!  Make it a FANTASTIC learning week everyone!

While re-registration for next year is certainly a big deal, and something you should not let slide by...but some students are allowing themselves to get WAY too stressed out over it.

A number of calls to a recent call-in talk show highlights just how stressed some students can become! Don't let this happen to you - listen and learn how you can get re-registered and get this mentally "off your plate".

Happy Times with Jesse

Cyberbullying Awareness Month

Since we are an online school and our students spend so much time on a computer, we are making the month of April

--- CYBERBULLYING AWARENESS MONTH ---

What is a digital footprint?

"Almost everyone at one time or another has been guilty of sharing too much information or posting a photo that later makes us cringe. To complicate matters further, it;s not just our own online actions we need to worry about—what others say and post about us also contributes to our digital footprint." (iKEEPSAFE Blog)

Please pay attention and think hard about what you post on the Internet. If you choose to post something that you wouldn't want someone else to see, don't post it!

Make sure that your page is secure and your privacy settings are set from high-maximum settings.

Information you should NEVER post online:
  • Your personal information like your phone number or address
  • A picture/details of you doing something that can get you in trouble
  • "Liking" a page that is spam (Trust me on this, as soon as you "Like" spam pages, they instantly have access to all of your information and sell it to other companies.)
  • Do not become online friends with ANYONE that you do not know in real life. ANYONE. This is the most important thing to remember.
Watch this video to learn more about Cyberbullying.

If you have seen cyberbullying among iQ Academy students or you have been a victim, please contact our Guidance Counselor Christine Meeks via Kmail (under Administrator role) or at (218) 998-0544 x3107.

8th Grade Graphic Novels

Language Arts 8 students just finished reading graphic novels.  They explored the terminology and techniques of the genre, comparing and contrasting the format to the young adult novels they had read in previous unit. These "modern" novels were read independently and also provided a contrast to the classic literature being studied in class.

Thanks to Ms. Roos for the photos!

Cyberbullying Awareness Month

Since we are an online school and our students spend so much time on a computer, we are making the month of April

--- CYBERBULLYING AWARENESS MONTH ---

Cyberbullying definition: Using technology to repeatedly and intentionally harm someone emotionally or mentally.

Stop Cyberbullying
Have you ever seen any of your iQ classmates bullied online? Maybe you saw a rude post on facebook, or an inappropriate picture posted on Twitter.

If you see this and do not telling someone, you are helping the bully continue with his or her behaviors.

What to do if you are being cyberbullied:
  • If you're being bullied, harassed, or teased in a hurtful way — or know someone who is — there is no reason to suffer in silence. In fact, you absolutely should report upsetting IMs, emails, texts, etc.
  • Tell someone. Most experts agree: The first thing to do is tell an adult you trust. This is often easier said than done. People who are cyberbullied may feel embarrassed or reluctant to report a bully. Some may hesitate because they're not 100% sure who is doing the bullying. But bullying can escalate, so speak up until you find someone to help.
If you have seen cyberbullying among iQ Academy students or you have been a victim, please contact our Guidance Counselor Christine Meeks via Kmail (under Administrator role) or at (218) 998-0544 x3107.

Obviously it is common for friends to disagree about something over social media networks, texting, etc.
-Cyberbullying happens when someone purposely attempts to do harm to another person by threatening, harassing, or isolating them.

There are MANY kinds of ways to bully in an online world:
  • Social media sites such as facebook
  • Twitter
  • YouTube
  • Inappropriate or embarrassing images or videos going viral
  • Impersonation-creating a fake account to bully without using your real name
Cyberbullying is taken VERY SERIOUSLY. If you have seen it happening you need to tell an adult as SOON AS POSSIBLE!

If you have seen cyberbullying among iQ Academy students or you have been a victim, please contact our Guidance Counselor Christine Meeks via Kmail (under Administrator role) or at (218) 998-0544 x3107.
